In this weekly online video series, the Artistic Director of Hackney Empire has an informal, frank conversation with a guest from the creative industries, discussing being a Creative during COVID19, with tips on staying positive and how to look to the future.

WeAreStripes create and increase opportunities for individuals from ethnic backgrounds by educating on career entry into the industry and supporting current BAME individuals in the industry with career progression, mentoring and coaching. Yamin and Haydn take a deep dive into positivity and practical advice on how to keep moving forward during COVID19 to best equip yourself for the future.

Episode 3: Yamin Choudury: In Conversation with Debris Stevenson & Jammz
Debris Stevenson is a dyslexic writer, Grime poet, working-class academic, pansexual ex-Mormon and Bashment dancing social activist from the seam between East London and Essex. She wrote and performed in Poet in Da Corner and the Royal Court and on tour, with Jammz featuring in the show. Jammz is an MC, spoken word artist, playwright and record producer from Hackney, East London and the founder of the record label I Am Grime. Yamin, Debris and Jammz explore the process of creating and performing in the epic Poet in Da Corner, the experience their national tour being cancelled and being a creative freelancer during COVID19.

Bisola Popoola is the Founder of Safe House London – a charity based in Hackney providing hope and educational workshops for young people growing up in a challenging environment. She and Yamin discuss being from Hackney, commercial vs community careers, knowing your value and holding on to your self worth.

Episode 5: Yamin Choudury: In Conversation with Ola Christian 
Ola Christian is the founder of LEVILE and previously studied Business and Marketing at university. Ola Christian created LEVILE in 2016 out of the frustration that no platform that offered support and opportunities for talent in the entertainment industry existed for himself as a young black man growing up in London. It was important for Ola to not only see people who look like him on TV but also behind the camera and understand the process of what it is like to enter the industry. Ola and Yamin discuss how to find opportunities, make the most of them and progress towards your goals.
