Hackney Empire and the Armel Opera Festival present the Szeged National Theatre’s brand new re-working of Mozart’s masterpiece, The Magic Flute; – with staging from multi-award winning director Robert Alföldi, who is known for exciting and adventurous theatre work. The production won the ARTE TV Audience Award at the internationally renowned Armel Festival in 2015, where Marlène Assayag, who plays Queen of the Night, also won the Best Performer Award.

The Armel Festival attracts many major European opera companies including Josef Kajetan Tyl Theatre from the Czech Republic and English Touring Opera from London who won this prize in 2013.

Mozart’s humanist masterpiece is more popular than ever. It is filled with Freemason symbols and references, and aims to show us the majestic power of art and music, a force that can change people and tame beasts.
