We are sorry to announce that English Touring Opera’s season of work at Hackney Empire, including all performances of The Turn of the Screw, The Knot Garden and Greek will no longer take place in October 2020. We are working with ETO to arrange an alternative presentation for the Autumn period, which will take place instead of these shows. Please click here for a statement from ETO regarding this.
Michael Tippett’s third opera is a compelling play-within-a-play.
Six emotionally charged people arrive at a country house with a knot garden, a sort of maze. While they each find their way through the maze, they are manipulated by psychotherapist, Magnus. He encourages them to take on characters from Shakespeare’s great play, The Tempest, while they work through their relationships.
ETO’s new production will be directed by David Freeman, revisiting his seminal production for the Royal Court Theatre (1984). Conducted by Richard Baker
This is obviously a very challenging time for us as an organisation and we would ask you to bear with us until we are able to confirm the new repertoire. We will contact you again as soon as we have the details of the new performances confirmed. If you need any clarity on this please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
