Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk POSTPONED UNTIL NOV 2021

Firstly we want to thank everybody for their passionate and tireless support, particularly over the last five months, the donations and messages of love and encouragement have given us the strength we need to keep pushing forward in increasingly punishing circumstances.

We are announcing today, Monday 10 August, that we have taken the agonising decision that we have to postpone this year’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk until November 2021. This is due to the continued uncertainty of government guidelines on public performances and the likelihood of continued social distancing restrictions which make staging a pantomime financially unviable, while not eliminating risk for audiences and artists alike.

Pantomimes are long and expensive to plan and produce, monopolising the minds, efforts and generosity of hundreds of people in the process. Writers, directors, composers and performers, designers, builders, technicians and stage managers, box office and front of house staff, the list goes on and despite potential government funding for some – to be confirmed at a later date – the numbers just don’t add up while all the uncertainty remains.

Everyone involved in bringing our world famous pantomime to Hackney is devastated, but we know that we have to ensure that Hackney Empire can remain an incredible and singular sanctuary of creativity and togetherness for another 120 years and more. A wonderful positive note at this difficult time is that Clive Rowe will be appearing as Dame Daisy Trott in 2021 and we hope that you will be happy to transfer your tickets across to similar performances in 2021. We are in the process of getting it on sale and will aim to be in touch with you by mid-September. You do not need to take any action now but if you need any clarity on this please contact box.office@hackneyempire.co.uk.  We thank you for your understanding and patience as we reschedule.

However, this doesn’t mean that nothing will be happening at Hackney Empire over the holidays in December. We are working on a festive programme, it will be on a smaller scale to our usual offering, but it will be just as magical; maybe fewer custard pies, but even more fairy dust! We will let you know as soon as we we can confirm but meanwhile please be careful, safe and kind at this time, and we look forward to seeing you at Hackney Empire soon!
